FOSTER CARER/ DISABILITY SUPPORT WORKER – PERMANENT/PART TIME (QLD)

  • Travel within and around northern Brisbane and Sunshine Coast regions, you will be required to have your own road worthy vehicle as a requirement of the role

About the role

You will join a team who provide therapeutic support to our foster carers by way of direct support to the children & young people placed in their care. Work is needs based (on the individual requiring the support) with varied levels of support required; behavioural/community/educational engagement/transport/disability.

Core Tasks

  • Provide direct support with our children and young people; respite, birth family visits, in class/ school support, community engagement, behavioural/social mentoring, camps/activities and or excursions.
  • Supporting children and young people with various diagnosis such as; Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral palsy and other genetic conditions
  • Provide home/domestic assistance in the carer’s home, transportation for our children and young people to various locations.
  • Support with transitioning from care to adulthood

Other Experience and Skills Required

  • Collaborative support, advocating for the child or young person and participate in our Key Care team Frameworks
  • Assist in care / behaviour plans for our children and young people
  • And ensure compliance of business and child protection policies & procedures
  • Be energetic and enthusiastic, have a passion for working with children and young people who have been exposed to trauma and or may have a disability
  • A Diploma of Youth Work as well as experience in supporting adolescents
  • A certificate in Human Services/Disability and or a similar relevant field (minimum Cert 4)
  • First Aid Certificate is essential and certificates in areas of disability support
  • Be confident and able to deal with difficult situations in accordance to business and child safe procedures
  • Proven experience in Youth work, Youth Detention, Residential Care and or OOHC
  • Current Australian “C” Class driver license, is a must and your own fully insured/registered vehicle (Mileage reimbursements are available as per business policy)
  • Availability during weekdays, during afternoons and early evenings (some weekend work may apply also on weekend rates)
  • And must have a Working With Children Card/Blue Card relevant to QLD and be willing to undergo and satisfactorily complete personal and statutory checks
